In picking an architect, we wanted someone who'd allow us to have the majority of say in our project. We were impressed with Steve's variety in his portfolio, implying that he designed more to his client's wishes than his own taste, per se. He also came highly recommended from our contractor, whom we had already contracted on a cost-plus basis to build us an energy star rated...hopefully net zero home.
However, during our process, he was "as advertised" and more. He was an incredible listener but would 'intervene' if necessary. Although my spouse and I felt we were on the same page, he was very helpful in helping us come to a compromise when necessary. Although designing a home was the emotional challenge that many described it to be, Steve was incredibly helpful 'holding our hands' throughout the process, including HOA permitting and the inevitable 'set-backs'.
We hired Steve to plan an extensive remodel of 3700 sq ft
home. He met with us at the house and toured it to learn what we had in mind.
We immediately realized that he was a very good listener and had excellent
recall.
At our next meeting he had a very complete draft of what we
wanted. As our meetings continued and
the plan developed, he was able to create solutions that we really liked for
some of the problems we had with the existing structure. It also became quickly
apparent that he studies extensively to keep up to date with advances in design
and technology.
He is well regarded by those we needed to interface with in professions and government to work on this project and that was very helpful. We ultimately did not remodel the house for other reasons. We are looking forward to future projects with Steve.
Steve designed a wonderful contemporary home for us. Our
meetings with Steve went smoothly and we found him to be a good listener. He
was attentive to our thoughts and ideas about what we liked and wanted in our
new home.
His interpretation of our ideas has led to a truly unique design. He
was able to position the house on the lot in a way that took advantage of the
view from every room. He worked very well with our builder and was willing to
meet as often as necessary during the design process and during construction.
Not a day goes by when people do not comment on our home and its unique design.
